Bli Bli explosive: Workplace cleared after suspicious device detected at Sunshine Coast worksite

A suspicious device discovered at a workplace prompted a mass evacuation.

Emergency services were called to the outdoor site on Cooney Road in Bli Bli on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast about 7.20am on Wednesday.

Initially, crews believed they were responding to an explosive device.

Queensland Police have established an exclusion zone and staff and the public have been asked to avoid the area where the device was discovered.

A police spokesman said specialist officers were at the scene.

“Police established an exclusion zone at a business in Bli Bli this morning following reports of a suspicious device,” the spokesperson said.

‘Emergency services were initially called to the Cooney Road address after reports the object had been located this morning.

“An exclusion zone has been created around the company and specialized police are trying to determine the nature of the device.”
