The Chicago Blackhawks are considered to have one of the best farm systems in the NHL right now. Recent drafts filled with high-draft opportunities have a lot to do with that. There have been numerous top-60 picks made over the past three years.
One of their picks, Sacha Boisvert, is coming off a great weekend at the University of North Dakota. In a great NCHC two-game with Arizona State at Mullett Arena, they split the series.
Arizona State won the first game on Friday night and North Dakota took the Saturday night game in overtime. This turned into a weekend series in a crowded building.
Boisvert was North Dakota’s scorer in overtime. He made a great individual effort on a power play to score the winning goal for his team right in front of the net. It’s those high-danger scoring area plays that are missing from the NHL version of the Blackhawks right now. Boisvert may be a booster for them one day soon.
North Dakota trailed by one until they tied it with less than 31 seconds left in regulation. Boisvert’s OTGWG helped make the comeback worthwhile.
With this objective, Boisvert has 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points in 21 games played. That leads all skaters on the North Dakota team. For a freshman in college, that’s incredibly impressive.
Next weekend, Boisvert and North Dakota will return home to take on Western Michigan. If he continues to score big points while staying consistent with his defensive play, he will be considered one of the best freshmen in the NCAA by the end of the year, if he isn’t already. The Blackhawks have a good one.
