Neon has released a new trailer for its upcoming thriller Cuckoo, starring Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer.

The 25-year-old transgender actress, who made headlines earlier this week for saying she doesn’t want to play transgender roles, plays Gretchen in the new film.

The thriller follows Gretchen and her parents (Jessica Henwick and Martin Csokas) as they move to a seemingly idyllic resort.

Gretchen soon discovers that things in this strange place are not at all what they seem to be.

Neon will release the film in theaters on August 9, following its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February.

The trailer begins with an audio recording of Gretchen saying, ‘Mom, I want to come home.’ She’s getting sick.’

The trailer shows some shots of the family driving through some mountain passes to reach this resort, where they are greeted by Mr. Koning (Dan Stevens).

‘How is your trip going?’ Koning asks, as Gretchen’s mother Beth says, “Very nice, thank you.”

Luis (Csokas) tells Gretchen to “come say hi,” as she only offers a casual “What’s up?”

Gretchen meets an older woman who says she is her neighbor and extends her hand and adds, “I haven’t heard of you.”

A confused Gretchen, carrying a Fender guitar amplifier, replies, “Why would you have heard of me?”

A strange noise is heard in the woods outside the resort, while another shot shows Mr. Koning asking Gretchen if she would like to work for him at the resort.

Gretchen is seen working a cash register while another girl vomits, while Gretchen is told, “This happens sometimes.”

Gretchen is seen operating a cash register while another girl vomits, while Gretchen is told, “This happens sometimes.”

A woman approaches the counter with a six-pack and coldly tells Gretchen, “You don’t belong here.”

Gretchen is heard asking, “Why isn’t there anyone working the front desk after 10?” as the front desk phone rings.

Gretchen answers the phone and Mr. Koning tells her, “I want you to lock the doors and wait for me.” I’m going to pick you up right now.’

Gretchen is seen riding her bike at night while listening to headphones and notices the shadow of a girl behind her.

Gretchen is then seen in a hospital with a huge bandage on her head, as Koning tells her, “If I were you, I wouldn’t want to hurt myself even more.”

She is then seen leaving with a bandage on her head and a huge hinged brace on her arm, looking quite distraught.

Gretchen asks her parents, ‘Why did you bring us here?’ Koning says, “Your family belongs here.”

While her parents don’t react, Gretchen exclaims, “That’s a fucking weird way to say it.”

Gretchen tells her parents, 'They think I'm crazy,' while Trixie (Greta Fernandez) is seen screaming while Koning and others watch something on a monitor.

“Nature is pretty extraordinary,” Konig says, as a distraught Beth adds, “I don’t feel very good,” as Konig is seen leaving a room with a shotgun.

“Some species need our help,” Koenig adds, “as the trailer ends with a traumatized Gretchen in a library, as Koenig speaks over the speaker.

“I give you the opportunity to be of great service in our quest for preservation,” Koenig says, saying, “Consider yourself lucky,” as the trailer ends.
