Black Friday officially starts on November 24 this year, but if you plan on making that the only day you shop for gifts this holiday season, you’re missing out. Several notable retailers including Best Buy and Target, have already begun rolling out their holiday discounts online and in stores. Both retailers also offer price protection during most of the holiday shopping season, so if you shop early and the same item drops to a lower price, you can retroactively get that better deal.
Whether you take advantage of the slew of early Black Friday deals or wait until the day after Thanksgiving, it’s important to know how major retailers are handling the shopping event this year. If you plan to spend some money, here are the timelines and expectations from Amazon, Walmart, and all the retailers we know.
Amazon has yet to announce a full playbook for Black Friday, but it has it a landing page full of vacation deals, which can be updated and become your main hub for Black Friday deals, as well as Cyber Monday deals later on. There aren’t many early offerings worth mentioning, at least in terms of technology, but Amazon is Discounting several pairs of Beats headphones. at its usual selling price. An example is the elegant transparent Beats Studio Buds Plus, which are already on sale for $129.95 ($40 off).
Just keep in mind that Amazon doesn’t offer price matching, so price “protection” for many Amazon shoppers means buying the item at the lowest price and returning the original, which is unfortunately a waste.
Black Friday savings have already begun to some extent at Best Buy. The retailer is currently offering several special offers through its Black Friday Deals Eventwith My Best Buy Plus and My Best Buy Total paid members gaining access to greater discounts on selected products. The first deals opened on October 30, and Best Buy’s full Black Friday sale is scheduled to run from November 17 to 25. (Yes, eight full days for a unique “Black Friday Sale.”) The retailer’s Cyber Monday promotion is also scheduled for November 26 and 27, which means Best Buy is essentially Sales throughout the month of November..
Best Buy early buyers also get price protection, ensuring that if they purchase a qualifying item and receive a larger discount during the return or exchange period, they can request a refund for the difference. As with some of the Black Friday deals, you’ll want to make sure you’re signed in with your My Best Buy account while browsing to ensure you get the lowest price.
Target recently announced a series of Early Black Friday Savings, which began on October 29 and will run through Thanksgiving weekend. Every Sunday in November, Target will show new deals in-store and online, and you can preview the week’s upcoming deals at Target Weekly Ad on Friday before they start.
Target says it will offer the best prices all season; However, the retailer also has a vacation price matching policy valid if you offer a better deal on an item through December 24. Please note that you may need to return to the store to match the price of an item purchased there or call Target guest services for online purchases.
Walmart plans to begin implementing its black friday deals in two waves, the first will begin online on Wednesday, November 8 at 3 pm ET and in store on Friday, November 10. The second wave begins online on Wednesday, November 22 at 3 pm ET and in stores on Black Friday itself (November 24). Some of the offers can already be previewed, with more to come. Paying Walmart Plus subscribers will also get three hours of early access to all of the retailer’s Black Friday online deals, starting at noon ET on November 10 and again on November 22. Walmart also offers 50 percent off a Walmart Plus annual membership until November 8, which reduces the cost of its premium service to $49 for one year.
There is no word yet on Black Friday details from GameStop. We expect to hear more soon about store hours on Black Friday and possibly Thanksgiving, as well as some details about the type of gaming deals it plans to offer during the holiday season.
Newegg offers an initial wave of black friday deals until November 16, with its second round running from the 17th to the 25th. Like other retailers, it offers price protection, so you can choose to buy early without much worry, and highlights price-protected items with a colorful badge near the product name. However, the price protection window only runs from November 1st to November 16th, leaving a small gap before Black Friday. While that’s not as wide a window as Best Buy or Target offer, Newegg says it will automatically credit you the difference before December 5, so you don’t have to keep an eye out for a lower price during that time period or mark it yourself.
Costco recently announced what it calls “Holiday Savings” Thanksgiving Day Deals Online.
