Bizarre Moment Armed Police Arrest Suspect Hiding In Wheelie Bin
- A police helicopter guided ground officers to a wheelie bin in the street
- A thermal camera identified the suspect’s hiding place by his body heat
This is the bizarre moment armed officers were guided to a suspect hidden in a wheelie bin by the National Police Air Service.
The police helicopter, using its thermal imaging camera, was able to guide officers on the ground to the wheelie bin left by the side of the road.
The suspect’s body heat turned the bin black in the thermal image, making it obvious to the observer in the helicopter where he was hiding.
Footage shows a police car stopping a short distance from the trash can. Moments later, armed officers approached the trash can.
The suspect was hiding in a wheelie bin, surrounded. Its heat signature made the bin black, compared to the rest of the trash cans on the street that didn’t glow

Officers approached the wheelie bin after being guided by colleagues into the helicopter
Armed police then surround the bin following a radio message from the police helicopter “your fifth bin on the left shines like a Christmas tree”.
A policeman then flips the lid of the trash can – to find the suspect crouching inside.
The suspect then stands up in the bin before being dragged outside and detained by the police.
A spokesperson for NPAS South West said: ‘Our Exeter team located a suspect hiding in a wheelie bin in Devon a few months ago.
‘Excellent teamwork with Devon and Cornwall Police resulted in the arrest of a suspect.
MailOnline has contacted Devon and Cornwall Police for an update.
