Aston Villa allowed Sarkic for free last summer, joining Wolves before impressing when he was loaned out to Shrewsbury in League One.

He is now continuing his development with a step up to the championship. Andy Marshall, the Birmingham goalkeeping coach who worked with Sarkic at Villa, has reportedly been a key factor in their interest and the move.

And Bowyer was even more impressed when he got a closer look at Sarkic during training and pre-season friendlies against Cheltenham and Barrow.
