Bindi Irwin has shared the touching connection her late father Steve Irwin shares with his daughter Grace.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the 25-year-old wildlife warrior revealed that both her father and daughter share a love for a particular species of turtles that bear the family’s name.

“My dad discovered a new species of turtle 40 years ago…” he wrote over an image of Steve gently holding a turtle.

“Not knowing they would be her granddaughter’s favorite animal… Today we protect this incredibly vulnerable species with an endangered species program.”

Bindi added: ‘Elseya Irwini or Irwin’s Turtle is in good hands. You would be very proud of your granddaughter, dad. We miss you.’

In his caption, he wrote “the legacy continues” as a new generation of the Irwin family continues Steve’s passion for protecting wildlife.

Several fans and followers took to the comments to praise Bindi for showing her family Steve’s work and accomplishments.

‘There’s a video of Steve crying talking about his legacy and how proud he would be to walk away when he has kids and pass on his love for animals. Mission accomplished,” wrote one user.

“That’s him letting you know he’s still around by revealing your daughter’s traits,” another added. “The same thing happened to me with my daughter and my grandmother.”

Meanwhile, Bindi’s mother Terri added: “It’s wonderful to see Steve’s mission and message alive.”

The Irwin family has been known for their wholesome image since the late Steve came onto the scene in the ’90s.

Steve died on September 4, 2006, aged 44, after being pierced in the chest by a manta ray while filming a documentary about the Great Barrier Reef.

Following his death, Steve’s family, including daughter Bindi, 25, widow Terri, 59, son Robert, 19, and son-in-law Chandler Powell, 27, continued his conservation work at Australia Zoo .

It was Steve’s father Bob, 83, who built the iconic Queensland Zoo from scratch in 1970 and passed it on to his late son and his wife Terri in 1992.

During his lifetime, Steve promoted wildlife conservation with his own hit television show, Crocodile Hunter.

And his family has continued his legacy with their own hit wildlife reality series, Crikey! These are the Irwins, who debuted in 2018 and can still be seen on the Animal Planet network.
