The loss of her pet comes a few days after the singer opened up about writing What was I made for? for the Barbie soundtrack in an interview with Zane Lowe.
She revealed that both she and her brother Finneas were invited to see a rough cut of the Barbie movie, though she wasn’t sure anything would come of it.
‘I went in without thinking that something would necessarily come out of it. I thought, I just want to see this movie,’ she admitted.
‘This is great. I’m honored that I’m being thought of, whatever,” Eilish added, as she commented on how Gerwig was apprehensive about showing the film to anyone.
‘She was like, ‘It’s so scary to show this to someone. It’s like my baby.” She was literally like, “I don’t care. Please, if you’re inspired, do something. And if you’re not, that’s okay. Alright. It would be my dream”.
She added that she wasn’t sure if she would write the song with Finneas, though they continued to play around with ideas the next day.
“And we actually sat down and Finneas started playing the piano, and…those first two lyrics, ‘I used to float, now I just fall,’ they just came out…”I used to know, but now I’m not sure what I was made for,” Eilish said.
Eilish added that she “didn’t think of me once in the writing process”, although she later realized that he actually wrote the song for her.
