Bill Shorten to quit politics: Anthony Albanese set to make major announcement

Anthony Albanese is expected to announce Bill Shorten’s retirement at a press conference at 11am today.

Shorten led Labor to a narrow defeat at the 2016 election and then led Labor to an unexpected defeat at the 2019 election, after which he announced his resignation as leader, with Albanese elected unopposed to replace him.

Following Labor’s victory in the 2022 election, Shorten was appointed Minister for Government Services and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
