In another striking snapshot, Nye, wearing sunglasses, looks up, echoing the gesture that millions of Americans will soon make during the solar eclipse.
“On Monday, April 8, the Moon will pass between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun,” Time Out New York captioned the photoshoot on Instagram.
“In preparation for the celestial event, we sat down with Bill Nye (@billnye) to get answers to all our burning questions about the eclipse and his top recommendations for viewing in New York City.”
In the interview, Nye encouraged enthusiasts to “take that day, that noon drive down the road” to witness the eclipse along its sweeping, 115-mile-wide path, which stretches from Mexico to Canada.
“If you’re not on the path, it’s not the same,” he added.
On Monday, April 8, the sky will briefly darken as the moon eclipses the sun, engulfing parts of North America in momentary darkness.
“You’re talking about three minutes, 18 seconds… it will change your life,” Nye said.
When asked about the anticipation for the upcoming total solar eclipse, Nye explained how the event still draws everyone’s attention.

‘We just wonder where we come from. We wonder about the cosmos and our place within it.
‘Everybody does it. Everyone wonders if there are other people on other planets or other stars, if we are here and come and go.’
Nye, who starred on the beloved children’s show Bill Bye the Science Guy from 1993 to 1998, said he hopes his young fans “pause and think about their place in the cosmos.”
“How amazing it is that we understand the motion of the Earth and the Moon so precisely.”
