Late-night political talk show host Bill Maher defended Kansas City Chiefs star Harrison Butker on his show, saying he doesn’t understand “what the big crime is” following the kicker’s controversial graduation speech over the weekend past.

Butker has been under fire for nearly a week after some considered his talking points as a guest speaker during Benedictine College to be sexist and racist.

Additionally, Butker has been criticized for using his Catholic faith as a shield to project his beliefs, such as that women are better as “housewives.”

However, Maher has sided with Butker despite admitting that he disagrees with the three-time Super Bowl champion’s views.

Maher believes the reaction was undeserved.

“I can’t express how much this guy is not like me,” Maher said during his ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ show. “He’s religious. He loves marriage. He loves children… And now he’s the biggest monster in history.”

‘Again, I don’t agree with much with this guy, but I don’t understand the point. He said… “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world.” Ok, that seems pretty modern,” Maher continued.

“But I would venture to guess that most of you are very excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.” I don’t see what the big crime is. Not really,” Maher added.

“And I think this is part of the problem people have with the left: a lot of people in this country are like that,” Maher said. ‘As if I’m saying that some of you may go on to have successful careers, but many of you are excited about this other way that people, everyone, used to be. And now can’t that also be a choice?

“And I feel like they feel very burdened, like there’s only one way to be a good person and that’s to get an advanced degree from one of those shit factories like Harvard,” Maher concluded.

Although Maher is best known for his political satire, there doesn’t seem to be any humor in his portrayal of Butker.
