Radio presenter Sammy J has announced he will be leaving ABC Radio Melbourne after five years.
Sammy J, who has presented ABC Radio Melbourne Breakfast since before the pandemic, said he is leaving the show with “pride” and gratitude.
“Hosting Melbourne Breakfast was an unexpected opportunity that turned into an unexpected joy,” said Sammy J, real name Samuel Jonathan McMillan.
“But radio demands all of them and deserves nothing less, and after five years I’m ready to trade in the 4:15 a.m. alarm for more regular hours.”
“I leave with pride, gratitude and a litany of money-for-comments scandals that will be revealed in due time.”
Shelley Hadfield, acting director of ABC Radio Melbourne, said Sammy J has had a huge impact on audiences.
“Sammy has raised the questions we never knew we wanted to answer,” Ms Hadfield said.
“He has questioned the Prime Minister and Prime Minister, broke the news to Melbourne of the Queen’s death and interviewed musicians, magicians, meat workers and mathematicians.”

“But it’s Sammy’s connection with the audience that has been a hallmark of his time at 774. You only had to watch listeners show up at dawn for his outside broadcasts to understand the impact he’s had on people’s lives. “.
Sammy J’s last broadcast will be on December 13 and further announcements about ABC Radio Melbourne’s 2025 lineup are expected over the next week.
Sammy’s departure comes just months after the radio host took an X-rated swipe at KIIS FM’s Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson after they lost in the Melbourne market in August.
The radio duo came fifth in this month’s poll, while Sammy J saw a ratings boost for his ABC breakfast show.
The popular comedian couldn’t resist boasting about his win with a post that poked fun at the Kyle and Jackie O Show’s love of raunchy content.
His departure comes just months after the radio host took an X-rated swipe at KIIS FM’s Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson after they lost in the Melbourne market in August.
“All these months of asking my ABC listeners if they’ve done anything has really been worth it,” Sammy said in an Instagram Story.
The mischievous joke at the expense of his rivals appeared to be a direct reference to a comment made by Sandilands when his radio show debuted on Melbourne airwaves in April.
During the show, Henderson, 49, introduced herself as “STI-free” before Kyle began pressuring her for her opinion on anal sex.
Meanwhile, the 52-year-old introduced himself as a ‘former F-boy, coke-sniffing jerk.’
Meanwhile, Sammy J has seen a rise in listenership for his ABC Melbourne morning show.
It earned an 8.2 percent audience share in the August ratings, jumping from 7.3 percent in the last survey.
