& # 39; Look! & # 39; Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty recalls the uncomfortable first moment she met Nicole Kidman in a cafe in Sydney when the A-list actress tried to secure the television rights for her best-selling novel

After Liane Moriarty wrote the best-selling novel Big Little Lies, it was not long before Hollywood heavyweights Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon set their sights on customizing for TV.

But on Sunday, the Australian author admitted that things nearly wavered when she met Nicole in Sydney four years ago, with the A-list actress trying to secure TV rights to the book.

The 60 Minutes of Channel Nine were reminiscent of the uncomfortable moment when she met the Oscar winner, 50, for the first time in a coffee shop in Darlinghurst, Sydney, four years ago.

Liane stated that the Hollywood star wanted to meet her to record the television rights for the HBO hit in a local café.

& # 39; When I got there, the cafe was closed. So I thought to myself, I wonder if they have closed the cafe just for her, & # 39; said Liane, stating that she did not know what she could expect from a celebrity.

& # 39; I do not know. Maybe that's the way things are done. And so I walked back and could see the cooking staff.

Liane went on to explain that she was trying to make eye contact with the staff and to draw their attention so that she could be admitted.

& # 39; I said, "Are you closed?" and they said, "Yes." So I looked at them and said: & # 39; & # 39; Are you closed to everyone? & # 39;

She continued to laugh: "And they said," Yes, we are closed to everyone. "

In response to this, Channel Nine-host Liz Hayes shouted with jest: & # 39; Get out! & # 39;

& # 39; When I got there, the cafe was closed. So I thought to myself, I wonder if they have closed the cafe just for her. Liane laughed about how her meeting with Nicole almost went wrong.

But the situation was quickly resolved when they found a clearing in the neighborhood to discuss the book.

& # 39; Then we finally found another place to meet and she was sweet and warm and very sober & # 39 ;, Liane said.

Nicole, who also appeared on the current affairs program on Sunday, said she had just come out of the Big Little Lies Season 2 series to film the interview.

The acclaimed actress, who won an Emmy and Golden Globe for her acting as an abused woman in the series, said she loves Liane & # 39; and felt great responsibility to turn the book into a television blockbuster.

& # 39; We were just two Australian women talking about our lives. And within that time, I said, "Can we? I mean, if you would allow us, we promise you we'll have this done," she said.
