Big Brother is a rating success when the ratings for the final arrive

Big Brother is a rating success as last episode’s ratings are FINALLY revealed after data company Nielsen was hit by a cyber attack

A cyber attack on Nielsen’s data center delayed the delivery of TV ratings for last week’s live finale of Big Brother Australia.

But the ratings arrived today and Channel Seven can breathe a sigh of relief as the broadcast was a modest success.

Taking into account the final reviews, Big Brother is Seven’s biggest entertainment show of 2020 to date, and the most successful reality show in two years.

As reported by TV Blackbox, the live final on Wednesday, July 22 averaged 1.13 million viewers nationally (876,000 metro).

Tuesday’s semifinal was watched nationally by 1.19 million people (832,000 metro).

Big Brother went up against Channel 10’s Bachelor in Paradise last Tuesday and Wednesday, but the dating show had fewer than 500,000 metro viewers every night.

Seven’s Programming Director Angus Ross said, “We were convinced that Big Brother would generate a huge audience for the major demos, particularly 25-54s, and the ratings released today confirm this.”

“Big Brother has shifted our audience and helped us win all the major demos of the past seven weeks in a row. It was also the basis of 7plus records, now winning 15 weeks in a row as the best CFTA BVOD service. We have just started and we will achieve many more victories, ” he added.

BVOD stands for broadcast video on demand, which includes Seven’s digital streaming service, 7plus.

The data shows that 7plus has streamed nearly 290 million minutes for Big Brother, making it the top program on BVOD throughout its run.
