Cameron Bancroft’s BBL season is officially over after the Sydney Thunder opener suffered a fractured shoulder and nose in his horrific collision with teammate Daniel Sams.

Bancroft and Sams were still in a Perth hospital on Saturday morning after their sickening on-field clash during the Thunder’s latest win over the Scorchers.

The couple are awaiting the rest of the CT scans, but Sams will also be sidelined for at least 12 days after he and Bancroft were diagnosed with concussions.

Both players will also spend at least one more night in Western Australia, unable to fly to Brisbane with the rest of their teammates.

Thunder general manager and Channel 7 commentator Trent Copeland said during the second day of Australia’s fifth Test against India that the club would fly Sams’ wife Danii to Western Australia to be with him in hospital .

Bancroft also had to recover from a broken nose due to the incident, with a shadow now hanging over the rest of his domestic summer.

The horrors of the crash came as another notable story emerged, with Oliver Davies running out of the hotel to act as a concussion substitute.

Still feeling unwell, Davies scored three off eight balls, but the Thunder chased down Perth’s 4-177 from the last ball of the match.

The victory moved the Thunder into second place in the BBL standings with one game in hand, after winning just one game all of last season.

But the men in lime green are likely to be counting the costs of Friday night for some time.

Bancroft’s injury caps a horror summer for the West Australian, who began battling for a Test place before his form dipped at the worst possible time.

The Thunder will briefly get Sam Konstas back after the Sydney Test, but will likely enter the finals without him and Bancroft if Konstas is picked for the Sri Lanka tour.

Sams is also one of the Thunder’s most important players due to his ball stroke and ability to hit hard in the final minutes.

The all-rounder will miss at least the next four games for the Thunder, and any return date will depend on how he recovers from his concussion.

For now, the Thunder are at least confident that he suffered no further serious injuries after being left face down on the Optus Stadium turf and needing to be taken out in a medical taxi.

Play was stopped for five minutes after the collision, and Sams was treated by medical personnel and an ambulance on the field.
