President Joe Biden’s future in the 2024 race could be decided this week when Democrats return to Washington for the first time since their disastrous debate sparked calls for him to step aside.

The 81-year-old’s party faces the brutal question of whether he is fit for office and capable of beating Donald Trump in November.

Four more House Democrats called on Biden to drop out of the race over the weekend, while others said time was running out for the president to prove he was the right man for the job.

Meanwhile, Jill Biden and Kamala Harris (who would likely be the nominee if Joe drops out) are campaigning and mounting a furious defense.

Biden’s former press secretary Jen Psaki: Her ABC interview ‘went well’

President Joe Biden’s former press secretary Jen Psaki admitted Sunday that her ABC interview may not have been enough to quell calls for her to resign.

She opened her show on MSNBC saying:

I would say the president did well. In many ways, people watching saw what they wanted to see, because for some, he looks better than he did in the debate. Yes, he was clearer. He seemed much better prepared to defend his position against Trump. There were also some moments – not just one – that didn’t go well.

Psaki added that Biden appeared to be in “denial” about his standing in the polls compared to rival Donald Trump.

When the interview ended, it left us all in a kind of purgatory for the moment. It was better than the debate, it was not a resounding success. Even if it were a resounding success, an interview definitely does not have the ability to change the perception of the 72 percent of voters, according to a CBS poll, who do not believe Biden has the mental or cognitive health to serve. Even the White House and the campaign know this.

He also suggested that the panic within the Democratic Party will not go away anytime soon.

I know the questions I get in text messages from friends and family are twofold: What’s going to happen and what’s the best path forward? And I’m not going to sit here this afternoon and tell you that I know the answer to both of those questions.

Kamala Harris’s big White House blunder as Democrats struggle to find a viable alternative to 81-year-old Biden amid calls for the ailing president to resign

Several Democrats, including Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina and Sen. Laphonza Butler of California, have suggested the 59-year-old vice president is best suited to take on Trump in the general election if Biden agrees to step down.

Tim Ryan, a former Ohio congressman, has even called on the 81-year-old commander in chief to “ripper off the band-aid” and promote Harris immediately.

But in the four years since Biden took office, his administration has done little to promote Harris and properly prepare her to lead the United States. according to The Atlantic.

That failure comes despite the president’s promise to usher in a new generation of Democratic leaders.

Senior Democrat: “Time is running out” for Biden

A leading Democrat who has called for President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race has said the deadline for making that decision will be coming soon.

Rep. Mike Quigley of Illinois told Politico’s Playbook on Sunday night:

“People need to act. This is not the time to sit back and watch. Time is running out for this process to work effectively and, frankly, it’s time for tough measures.”

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, who has not called for Biden to step down, says Joe needs to prove to the country he is capable of doing the job.

He told CNN’s State of the Union over the weekend:

I think the president needs to do more. I’m not advising this campaign, but if I were, I would probably suggest that the president go out and call a town hall and a press conference to show the country that he’s still the same Joe Biden, one of the best retail politicians this country has ever seen.

The president says he can do it. I’m confident he can do it. I think this week is going to be really crucial for him to answer those outstanding questions.

Biden’s staff gives him detailed instructions with pictures and large print telling him how to “enter and exit a room” during planned events.

President Joe Biden has been reported to be receiving detailed instructions with pictures and large print telling him how to enter venues ahead of planned events.

A template provided to event staff, and obtained by Axios, shows Biden aides preparing a brief document with a photograph depicting his precise “walk to the podium.”

The template also reportedly included notes showing the “view from the podium” and the “view from the audience,” which were also accompanied by photographs.

The White House has said the brief memos are “core approaches” that are critical to Biden’s “advanced work” as president, adding that the same approach is also being used by Vice President Kamala Harris’ team.

But some event staffers have said they were “shocked” by the memos and do not believe a “seasoned political professional” should need verbal and visual guidance on “how to enter and exit a room.”
