President Joe Biden said former President Donald Trump “despised” Latinos in an interview published Tuesday, as he visited Nevada and Arizona, two swing states with large Hispanic populations.
The president recorded an interview with Raúl Molinar for Univision Radio on Monday and criticized the presumptive Republican nominee for his comments on immigrants and controversial elements of his immigration policy.
Biden is trying to shore up support among Latino voters — particularly in Arizona and Nevada — as the voting bloc drifts toward Trump with heavy Republican influence.
“Trump, this Saturday, called out migrants, he said they are “not people.” He says immigrants are “poisoning the blood of this country,” separating children from their parents at the border and putting children in cages,” Biden said.
The president also warned that Trump is planning mass deportation if he wins in November and “wants to end birthright citizenship.”

Migrants walk along the border wall with Mexico on the U.S. side last week to surrender to U.S. Border Patrol near Campo, California. Biden highlighted Trump’s comments on the migrant crisis and tough immigration policy in an interview on Univision radio.
“I mean, we have to stop this guy. We cannot let this happen. We are a nation of immigrants,” Biden said.
He also criticized Trump for helping draft a compromise immigration bill that was moving through Congress, describing it as “the most ambitious immigration reform ever.”
‘And guess what? Donald Trump called, and it’s a fact, started calling senators and telling them not to vote for this or you will be subject to my retaliation,” Biden said. “And then, guess what? That has stopped.
Biden stressed that the bill would have expedited the asylum process, increased the number of work permits and opened a path to citizenship for so-called Dreamers.
Meanwhile, he reiterated, Trump and Republicans are trying to end birthright citizenship, meaning anyone born on U.S. soil automatically becomes a citizen.
“It’s crazy what they’re trying to do,” Biden said. “But we can do a lot of things.”
The Democrat distinguished himself from Trump by saying he “never demonized immigrants.”
“I will never separate families. And I’m still working to reunite those who were separated under Trump,” Biden said. “He separated children and parents at the border and put the children in cages. Planning mass expulsions of several million people here in the country. Several million people,” Biden continued.
