President Joe Biden lost the caucus in American Samoa to unknown candidate Jason Palmer.
The Democrat was defeated in the small US territory in the South Pacific.
There were only six delegates at stake in a race that requires almost 2,000.
Palmer is a Baltimore-based investor.
This is not the first time American Samoa has achieved surprising results in a primary.
During the 2020 Democratic race, it was the only race won by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City.
