President Joe Biden left the White House alone on Wednesday afternoon for his maiden trip to his home in Rehoboth Beach to celebrate First Lady Jill Biden’s 70th birthday.
“No birthday plans. Just a quiet birthday at home,” Michael LaRosa, the spokesperson for the first lady, told DailyMail.com about the first couple’s itinerary for the midweek break.
No grandchildren or additional family are expected to join them, the East Wing said.
Jill Biden traveled separately to Rehoboth Beach and beat her husband to the Delaware beach town.
Biden left Washington after a high-stakes meeting with West Virginia Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito — and after providing an update on the administration’s COVID-19 response as the White House tries to get a vaccine up its sleeve of 70 percent of U.S. adults before the July 4 holiday.

Biden and his wife were spotted riding their bikes in Cape Henlopen State Park near Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, in November as they prepared for their move to the White House.
Details of the trip first emerged with a notice from the Federal Aviation Administration that air operations around Rehoboth Beach were being restricted from Wednesday to Friday due to a VIP.
Since it came so soon after Memorial Day weekend in the middle of the week, the timing seemed odd at first.
However, it soon became apparent that it was Dr. Biden was.
The couple spent $2.7 million in 2017 on the six-bedroom house with a pool, located about two blocks from the beach.
“Throughout our careers, Jill and I have dreamed of being able to buy a place at home on the beach where we can take the whole family,” Biden said at the time.
“We are very lucky to be able to make that happen now and look forward to spending time with our family in the place that matters most to us in the world.”
Although the president has regularly spent weekends at his home just outside Wilmington, Delaware, he has not spent time as president at his Rehoboth Beach home since moving into the White House.
However, he came to visit twice as President-elect.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins tweeted that he was expected to leave the White House on Wednesday after talks with a senior Republican senator about his infrastructure proposals.
“President Biden is visiting Rehoboth Beach this week, per two assistants,” wrote Kaitlan Collins.
Details of the trip were leaked Tuesday morning when aides said he would be leaving after an infrastructure meeting on Wednesday
“He’s leaving tomorrow after meeting Sen. Capito and is scheduled to return Friday.’
Rehoboth Beach has about 1,500 full-time residents, but swells to 25,000 during the peak summer months.
During his career as a senator, Biden was known for commuting home from Washington to Delaware every night to be with his family.
And as president, he has escaped the White House at every opportunity.
Of the 19 weekends, Biden has spent only five in his official residence.
Biden and first lady held Memorial Day weekend in their home state, where he delivered an emotional speech in New Castle, Delaware, calling on his late son and military veteran Beau Biden.
