President Joe Biden hosted Hispanic power brokers and some celebrities at a Cinco de Mayo Rose Garden party that featured margaritas, mariachi music and criticism of his unnamed “predecessor,” Donald Trump.
The president applauded the contributions of Mexican Americans, twice mentioning that he has a bust of Cesar Chavez in the Oval Office, while criticizing Trump’s plans to deport millions of illegal immigrants.
“We are a nation of immigrants and we must not forget that,” he said. He advocated for new rules to expand access to health care to so-called ‘Dreamers’ who came to the country illegally as children. He also renewed his demand that Congress act to give them permanent status.
‘Give me a break. These have been model citizens. Congress has to act.”

“And I’m proud that last Friday my administration finally announced a rule that for the first time in I can finally provide health insurance through the Affordable Care Act for DACA recipients,” Biden said, touting the new regulatory effort.
In a crowd that included Mexican actor Cristo Fernández along with Cabinet secretaries Xavier Becerra, Miguel Cardona and Isabel Casillas Guzmán, Biden repeatedly criticized Donald Trump, without mentioning him by name. (Fernández plays Dani Rojas on the Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso, whose stars previously visited the White House.)

Guests enjoyed appetizers and waiters brought trays of margaritas to the crowd before the president spoke.
On a humid day in DC, Biden criticized Trump for his recent Time magazine interview.
“In the same interview, my predecessor promised to use the US military to deport 11 million people here in the United States… He called immigrants rapists and murderers,” he said.
‘Friends, this is not who we are. “That’s not America,” Biden continued.
In the interview, Trump was asked if his deportation plans included the military.
“It would be,” he responded, adding, “when we talk about the military, generally speaking, I’m talking about the National Guard.”
He said he “would have no problem using the military, per se.”
“These are not civilians,” Trump said. ‘These are people who are not legally in our country. “This is an invasion of our country.”
It comes in an election in which Hispanic voters will once again be pivotal and in which Trump has been making new inroads.
Businessman and activist Henry Muñoz predicted to DailyMail.com that Biden would beat Trump two to one among Hispanic voters. He accused Trump of telling Hispanic voters “we don’t belong here” while Biden calls them “the future of this country.”
‘That’s not even an immigrant issue. “It’s a matter of we were born here and we are the future of the economy,” he told DailyMail.com after the event. “Here we are already the economy.”
