The Norwegian biathlon team is the best selection in the world. As a result, competition within the team is fierce, as Aleksander Fjeld Andersen recently found out.
The 26-year-old has lost his place in Norway’s recruiting team. “I have to admit that it was a big shock and hard to digest. I didn’t see it coming or thought about it before the news came,” Fjeld Andersen admitted to the TV station “NRK”.
The Scandinavian mostly played in the IBU Cup last biathlon season. In the overall classification, Fjeld Andersen ended up fourth. He was also able to prove himself in three World Cup races last winter. In the Östersund mass start, Fjeld Andersen finished sixth and tenth in the individual. In the sprint in Oslo, on the other hand, he only managed 75th place.
“I would have been good enough for almost any elite team in the world,” said the biathlete. According to Fjeld Andersen, those responsible in the Norwegian team now wanted to make room for younger athletes.
Will Aleksander Fjeld Andersen continue in biathlon?
“In the four years that I’ve been on the recruitment team, I’ve strived to be the best and been up to date and the discussion about being on the elite team. Then it’s really hard to get kicked out,” he revealed winter sports enthusiast a glimpse into his emotional world.
“I understand he was surprised by the results he delivered, but there is a tough fight for places,” Norway team manager Per Arne Botnan told NRK.
How and whether Fjeld Andersen will continue in biathlon is open. Even a resignation is not excluded. The ski hunter has started a bachelor’s degree in real estate brokerage.
