News about the 42-year-old hitmaker’s charitable efforts was revealed on Tuesday, when it was announced that the money would be distributed through the newly created Cecred x BeyGOOD Background.

The artist, who recently opened up about getting a daring pixie cut in 2013, also released an official statement about the reasoning behind her new venture.

According to the release, the Cecred x BeyGOOD fund “celebrates the influence professional hairstylists have on hair health and the critical importance of advocating for the salon community.”

The Grammy Award-winning songwriter will “nurture talent, promote professionalism and support entrepreneurship within the hair industry” through her participation.

Elsewhere in the statement it was explained why those involved with cosmetology schools and independent salons had been selected to benefit from the fund.

‘Stylists have an immense impact on the people in their chairs. They create a sacred space where we can show ourselves how we want and express ourselves through our hair. “We are honored to contribute to this incredible community,” he said.

Through the fund, a total of $250,000 will be awarded through scholarships to students at cosmetology schools in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston and Clemonton, New Jersey.

The remaining $250,000 will be distributed among independent salon owners in the same cities.

Potential fund recipients must submit an application for consideration.

Five small business grants will be awarded five times a year on a rolling basis in the aforementioned cities.
