He was only 13 years old when a 15-foot tiger shark ripped his left arm off on Halloween.
But despite the trauma of the life-changing injury, Bethany Hamilton loves to surf as much as ever, with the 28-year-old woman calling her her "place of healing."
Speaking exclusively to DailyMailTV, Bethany explained: "Traumatic things happen to us at one time or another."

Now the mother of two children, she reflected: "I was surfing less than a month [after the attack]. I was a 13-year-old girl so tough I was not going to let something like this stop me. "
Bethany also returned to the waves only a few weeks after welcoming her children, three-year-old Tobias and baby Wesley.
He explained: "I feel like I have a tendency to recover pretty quickly, you know.

Bethany and her husband, the youth minister Adam Dirks, have been married for five years.
She said they were enjoying life as parents.
