Ben Fordham says he didn’t want to take over Alan Jones’s 2 GB breakfast show

Ben Fordham will take on the coveted role of Alan Jones as host of the 2 GB breakfast show on Monday.

But the radio personality revealed on Saturday that he initially didn’t want the job and it was his wife, Jodie Speers, who eventually made the decision for him.

To talk with Stellar Magazine, the 43-year-old says the role was turned down multiple times because he wasn’t sure it was “the best thing for his family.”

‘I really appreciate that the work itself is spectacular. But make no mistake, it’s not one I’ve been chasing for family reasons. It just wasn’t me.

“I was concerned about the impact it would have on the family constellation. And I guess I just thought it would be easier not to. I think I said no about six times, ”he admitted.

Ben was eventually impressed by the new schedule that would allow him to pick up his son Freddy, five, from school, and the approval of Jodie, 37.

He explained, “I lean heavily on her. And I gave her a deadline and said, “Listen, if you change your mind and say no, I will never blame you.” ‘

Jodie told Stellar, “I knew he had to take it, but I probably had a knot in my stomach to handle it.”

Ben recently took his older children, son Freddy and daughter Pearl, three, out of school because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He explained that he asked for Jodie's blessing and revealed, “I lean heavily on her. And I gave her a deadline and said, 'Listen, if you change your mind and say no, I will never blame you.'
