Ben Affleck ‘sold himself as a changed man but that didn’t last’ before Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce

Ben Affleck is said to have sold himself as a “changed man,” but he failed to pull it off during his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.

The couple, who first dated in the 2000s, are said to have first split due to the “public scrutiny” surrounding their relationship, but all seemed to be well when they reunited in 2021.

However, after Lopez, 55, filed for divorce this week, a source said Page six: ‘When they weren’t in front of the cameras, they barely spoke to each other during what was supposed to be the happiest time of their lives.

They also claimed that Affleck, who has publicly struggled with his sobriety, “began to crave more privacy and could no longer handle Lopez’s level of celebrity.”

Lopez’s rep declined to respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment. DailyMail.com has not yet received a response from Affleck’s representatives.

There’s no denying that Affleck has put those close to him through tough times as he battles addiction.

He has been in rehab three times in 2001, 2017 and 2018, and on the most recent occasion his first wife, Jennifer Garner, staged an intervention and took him into treatment.

He later shamed the Alias ​​actress by saying he felt trapped in the marriage while trying to stay together for the sake of their children, and that he coped by drinking a bottle of whiskey and falling asleep on the couch.

After facing backlash, he later clarified that he in no way blamed her for his alcoholism.

Lopez and Affleck rekindled their love in 2021 and tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022.

But now, after months of constant rumors that her marriage was ending, Jennifer has filed for divorce.

She indicated that the separation date would be April 26, 2024, according to legal documents seen by DailyMail.com.

The couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement before getting married, confidential sources revealed.

Ben previously spoke about wanting to keep his relationship “private” in JLo’s documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told.

The film followed the making of her final album, This Is Me… Now, much of which was inspired by her romance with Ben.

During one part of the film, Ben admitted that he was “shocked” when he found his musicians looking through his private love letters that JLo had given them to look at as inspiration for their next album.

The actor had held on to his correspondence with the singer throughout his 13-year marriage to Garner, then had the letters and emails bound into a book to gift to her when they reunited in 2021.

She told the camera: “I always felt that things that are private were sacred and special because, in part, they are private.”

When asked by Variety earlier this year if she and Affleck would ever star in another film together, Lopez said, “Maybe, in the right case.”

“I mean, we love working together and being together, so maybe,” he added.

Affleck was last seen Tuesday morning with his ex-wife Garner and their son Fin. They were returning from taking their oldest daughter, Violet, 18, to college.

Hours later, Lopez filed for divorce. It was the second anniversary of her wedding with him.
