Bright, a native of the Windward side of Oahu, left a bold mark on the Hawaiian music scene during her illustrious career.

Her melodious voice and captivating performances earned her numerous awards, including the prestigious Female Vocalist of the Year award at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in 1991.

She was also honored in 2020 with the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bright grew up on the Windward side of Oahu and attended the University of Hawaii.

The singer’s cousin, Kumu Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, shared touching memories of their relationship, highlighting Bright’s deep connection to her roots.

“One thing about Teresa is that she and I shared a love of mo’oku’auhau or genealogy and we were always talking about genealogy, family relationships and we were always looking at old photos together,” Hewett told Island News.

Hewett stressed the importance of family in Bright’s life.

Bright’s death comes as he was due to celebrate his 65th birthday on 22 September.
