Bells Beach on hold for two days as swells diminish ahead of Easter weekend

Onshore winds and decreasing surf at Bells Beach have led organizers to suspend the annual event for the next 48 hours.

After two action-packed days to kick off the World Surf League event, the decision was made on Thursday morning to pause the action for Thursday and Friday.

Wild card teenager Ellie Harrison is the only Australian still standing in the women’s competition, after defending champion Tyler Wright, two-time winner Sally Fitzgibbons and world number one Molly Picklum were eliminated in the round of 16 on Wednesday . .

The men’s event is halfway through the round of 32, with Australians Morgan Cibilic, Ryan Callinan and defending champion Ethan Ewing already in the round of 16.

The next call will be made at 7.45am (AEDT) on Easter Saturday.
