Belgian shot put and hammer throw champion Jolien Boumkwo showed great team spirit at the European Championships in Poland when she showed up outside her event and ran a 100 meter hurdles race to save his team from being disqualified.
Boumkwo appeared all smiles as she painstakingly attempted each hurdle on Saturday in a video that went viral, after stepping in when the two Belgian hurdlers had to withdraw due to injury.
If no Belgian athlete had taken part in the event, the team would have been disqualified.
The 29-year-old finished the race without clearing any of the hurdles in 32.81 seconds, 19 seconds behind Spanish sprinter Teresa Errandonea who won in 13.22.
Boumkwo was applauded by the crowd and congratulated by her rivals as she scored two points for the team.
Points could be crucial as the bottom three countries will be relegated from Division 1.
