A couple have revealed how they transformed an abandoned tram station into their dream home, complete with ultra-modern interiors.
Tucked away in Adelaide’s leafy Malvern suburb, the former station electrified the nearby tram line from 1926 until the 1950s.
From the outside it looks tired and old, but when you step inside everything changes as the building has been completely redesigned as a unique and bright four-bedroom loft-style home.
Owners Corbet Stain and his partner, Dianna Palmer, have called the converted property home for more than 30 years.
They are proud of their restoration efforts.
“The building is pretty forgettable from the outside, but when you walk in, it’s not what you’d expect,” he said.
Mr. Stain acquired the property as a unique renovation project that could offer warehouse-style living.
And this is exactly what he has created, knocking down the old interior walls and giving the house a bold, modern feel.
The exterior of the nearly 100-year-old tram station has remained virtually intact following the renovations.

The couple decided to sell the house and revealed that they are sad to have to leave it just two years before the building’s centenary.
Mr. Stain hopes the new owners will appreciate the building’s history and charm.
“I hope it’s someone who loves the building for what it is: not just for being a house, but for the building itself,” he said.
Estate agent Angela Stentiford says the building has the best of the modern world while retaining its old-world charm.
“This house is a bold statement of confidence and originality, standing out in a world of conformity,” he said.
It will go up for auction on Saturday, July 13.
