Because of breakfast meals.. Indian police seize a fraud center that has afflicted a number of Australian banks

Investigations revealed that the operators trained to communicate with bank customers in Australia, with the aim of obtaining personal data and confidential information, including passwords to their financial accounts.

Indian police have arrested a group of people operating a fake call center that defrauded a number of Australian bank customers, after they were spotted due to a large amount of breakfast orders from a nearby restaurant.

They work in a call center of dozens located along Rajudi Beach outside India’s financial capital Bombay, where they are prevented from going out during work for fear of detection.

And after repeating food requests at a high pace and early hours of the day from a nearby restaurant, suspicions arose among investigators in India.

“This city is full of tourists on weekends, but it is almost deserted on the rest of the days,” said police officer Suhas Bafshi. He added, “The arrival of 50 to 60 requests a day for tea and breakfast meals from this restaurant, very early and for several days in a row, aroused our suspicions, so we began to monitor the place in secret.”

On the night of April 11, the police raided and searched the one-story building, and then arrested the main operator, along with 47 workers.

After investigations, the authorities charged them with impersonation and fraud under the Indian Information Technology Act.

Investigations revealed that the operators trained to communicate with bank customers in Australia, with the aim of obtaining personal data and confidential information, including passwords to their financial accounts.
