A beauty enthusiast has unveiled an inexpensive and convenient way to clean makeup brushes using everyday products found around the house.
The woman from Sydney shared a video on TikTok and combined extra virgin olive oil with antibacterial soap to form a smooth paste.

One by one, the woman cleaned her entire collection of makeup brushes in the bathroom while wearing a $6 rubber oven mitt.
The oven mitt not only protected her hand from stains, but the texture also thoroughly cleaned the brushes.
The clean brushes were raised slightly bristles down and placed on a towel to dry quickly.
Beauty experts recommend washing your makeup brushes after every use or at least once a week to prevent bacterial growth in the brushes and avoid blotchy, uneven application.
WHY CLEANING YOUR MAKEUP BRUSH IS IMPORTANT
bacterial growth – bacteria can grow in the brushes if remnants of make-up and foundation are left on the brushes for a long time
spotty application – using a dirty makeup brush can cause uneven or patchy application on the skin
Damages brushes – buildup on your makeup brushes can cause the fibers to break and weaken the bristles, making it even harder to apply your makeup properly
Skin irritation – any damage to your brushes can cause the bristles to harden and change their shape, causing skin irritation
Pimples and clogged pores – Dirty makeup tools introduce bacteria into your products and on the skin, which can cause pimples
Infection – in addition to germs that cause pimples, your brushes can also pick up some dangerous bacteria like E.coli and various fungi
wasted money – if the brushes are not properly cared for, it means that the user will have to spend more money to buy new brushes more often
Makeup brushes should be cleaned after each use or at least once a week
The beauty experts at Ipsy also endorsed the cleaning method and explained how soap alone should not be used as it can damage the bristles.
The TikTok video has since been viewed more than 59,000, with many TikTok users finding the hack useful.
“Omg I’ll have to try that,” one wrote, while another called it “genius.”
