A beauty clinic allegedly tricked a 19-year-old man with a mental age of five into getting breast implants by telling him they would help him make money.
The teenager’s mother, whom local media identified as Ms Lu from Wuhan, China, said her son underwent breast surgery on July 28.
“When our family found out about this, we were absolutely shocked. It was like the sky had fallen. He is only 19,” she told the BBC. The South China Morning Post.
She says her son went to the clinic to apply for a job offering full board and a monthly salary of 3,000 yuan (£325), but was persuaded by staff to get breast implants first.
A staff member reportedly told her via text message: “You can have the breast surgery first and start working once you’ve recovered.”
A beauty clinic allegedly tricked a 19-year-old man (pictured) with a mental age of five into getting breast implants by telling him they would help him make money.
The teenager’s mother, referred to by local media as Ms Lu from Wuhan, China, said her son underwent breast surgery on July 28.
When the teen expressed concern about having the surgery as a man, the staff member assured him that it was “okay for men.”
He was also worried about paying for the procedure, but the employee convinced him to pay for the surgery in installments, before suggesting he could reimburse the clinic through a livestream deposit.
“We have a lot of streamers who get cosmetic surgery here and make a lot of money,” the clinic employee said, according to SCMP.
The 19-year-old took out a loan of 30,000 yuan (£3,250) and another of 7,000 (£750) over the course of two years.
Her mother said that after the surgery in July, she was left with a B cup and two long scars under her breasts, which break her heart every time she sees them.
After a series of discussions with the clinic, the teenager’s breast implants were removed, which his mother says re-traumatised him.
She provided medical reports saying her son has the mental capacity of a five-year-old due to his intellectual disability and should not have been able to undergo the surgery without her consent.
Her son is said to be suffering from depression, anxiety and sleep disorders since the operation.
