A young woman has sparked debate after she was filmed proposing to her boyfriend on one knee, challenging traditional gender roles associated with marriage.
The unique proposal took place on October 27 at Copes Lookout in Kirribilli, a location famous for its stunning views of Sydney Harbour.
Images of the proposal, shared on the Customized Proposals & Co Instagram account, show the woman dressed in red, leading her blindfolded boyfriend to the gazebo, which was decorated with flowers, candles and a romantic table for two .
When the groom removed the blindfold, he was surprised to see his bride kneeling with an open ring box in her hand.
She asked him to marry her and he leaned in to kiss her.
Still kneeling, she placed the ring on his finger and they exchanged a few more words before embracing as the sun set over Sydney Harbour.
But despite the woman’s incredible gesture, many Australians felt it should have been the man who proposed.

Many people argued that the man should have been the one to propose, while others described him as handsome.
“I’d rather fight a shark in Sydney Harbor than kneel before a man,” said one.
“Before I did that, I cleaned the whole house with a Q-tip,” a second added.
“Girl, stand up and stop embarrassing us all,” said a third.
‘With all due respect, don’t beg him, if he’s interested and loves you, he’ll do it for you with respect and pride,’ another declared.
“I better hold and push the babies after this,” joked a fifth.
But many Australians came to the woman’s defense for violating social norms.
‘This girl is breaking the norm and any man would appreciate it. She is strong and knows what she wants. All you ladies take notes,” one person wrote.
“This woman found someone she loves unconditionally and would do anything for, so she proposed,” a second added.
“I hope that one day they find someone they are willing to serve and support, and receive that love in return equally.”
It’s unclear whether the proposal was part of a public relations stunt for the custom proposal company.
