A man is clinging to life in hospital after two thugs allegedly beat him and left him for dead outside his own home in what was described as a targeted attack.

Emergency services quickly made their way to Victoria Drive in Modbury, in north-east Adelaide, at around 3pm on Thursday following reports that a man was allegedly attacked in a driveway by two men riding bicycles.

The couple allegedly fled the scene before emergency services arrived.

Footage shows paramedics unloading the bloodied and badly injured father, 60, from an ambulance onto a stretcher as they arrived at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

He remains in critical condition with serious head injuries.

The entire street was cordoned off for several hours as up to a dozen police officers examined the crime scene for possible weapons.

Police spent several hours examining the street where a man was allegedly attacked in front of his home.

Detectives also interviewed surprised neighbors who had rushed to help the injured man.

The man lives on the street where he was allegedly attacked.

“He’s very private, so I’m not exactly sure what happened,” a neighbor told reporters.

‘It was quite upsetting to watch. Old man on the ground, bleeding from the head.

‘The guy looked like he’d been hit pretty bad. It was a bit of a shock to come home and find something like that.

Anguished relatives of the injured man were seen arriving at the scene after hearing the news.

Detectives arrested a 32-year-old man in nearby Modbury North two hours later.

He was charged with aggravated assault causing serious damage and spent the night behind bars to appear before Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.

Paramedics took the seriously injured father (pictured) to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

A major manhunt continues for a second suspected male attacker who remains on the run.

He is described as Aboriginal in appearance, with a slim build, wearing a white T-shirt, dark colored shorts and a white baseball cap. He also rode a white mountain bike.

“The incident is not a random attack and police are pursuing positive lines of investigation in relation to the second suspect,” police said.

Police want to hear from anyone who has seen or has a camera of two men riding bikes in the Modbury areas between 2:45 pm and 3:30 pm along North East Road, Reservoir Road, Victoria Drive, Montacute Road or McIntyre Road.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

Victoria Drive in Modbury was cordoned off for several hours after the alleged attack.
