The Chicago Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson apologized for his “lack of focus” in taunting Washington Commanders fans before allowing a spectacular game-losing Hail Mary touchdown on Sunday.
After Jayden Daniels’ final touchdown pass to Noah Brown, which actually came out of Stevenson’s hands, the video emerged of the cornerback talking to fans at the beginning of the play.
That video has since racked up 3.7 million views on X, and on Sunday night Stevenson took to the platform to address the embarrassing moment.
‘To Chicago and my teammates my apologies for the lack of awareness and concentration…. The game is not over until the zeros hit the clock,’ he wrote.
‘I can’t take anything for granted. Notes taken, improvement will occur.’
The Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson was seen taunting the Commanders crowd while a play was going on.
Stevenson grabbed the ball only to tip it into Brown’s hands for Washington’s victory.
Stevenson actually had his back to the line of scrimmage when Daniels snapped the ball.
He scrambled to get back into the play, but ultimately saw his attempt to hit the ball go horribly wrong when it deflected into Brown’s hands.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus said after the game that the play was something the team had practiced “a hundred times” since joining the franchise in 2022.
“I’ll have to see what the execution of that was, but we have one body against another, boxing guys like they’re basketball at the end,” he said. told reporters.
Stevenson, before a game in September, had seven tackles on Sunday afternoon.
‘We have a guy at the rim who knocks down the ball. We have a guy who goes behind the pile. I have to look at it and detail it and make sure we are better next time.”
Before the 52-yard Hail Mary, Stevenson had seven tackles and had one pass defended.
He and the Bears will look to bounce back from this Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to the Cardinals.
