As mentioned, Ten Hag lashed out in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday when he responded to suggestions that the penalty shootout win over Coventry was “embarrassing”.
‘You asked (asked) the question: “Is it embarrassing?” No, your reaction was embarrassing. The comments are a disgrace,” Ten Hag said.
‘High level football is about results. We reached a final and we deserved it, not only for this match but also for the others. We lost control for 20 minutes, we were also unlucky at 3-2 and 3-3. In the end we were very lucky, of course.
‘We weren’t happy with that. I can see that the fans are not happy about this either, but they feed off the opinions. But what I heard in general is that the fans are very happy that we are in the FA Cup final again.
It is a great achievement. Twice in two years is magnificent. For me, as a coach, five cup finals in four years.”
Mail Sport’s Nathan Salt writes that while Ten Hag came out fighting with the media this week, now is the time for his team to do so on the pitch.
