Furious BBC Breakfast viewers

Furious BBC Breakfast viewers “switched off their TVs within two minutes of the programme” as they criticised Sally Nugent and Jon Kay for “talking to viewers at home as if they were children”.

During Monday’s edition of the BBC talk show, disgruntled fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to vent about the presenting skills of Sally, 53, and Jon, 54.

One angry viewer claimed the pair were patronising their audience, commenting: “#bbcbreakfast with Jon Kay and Sally Nugent wouldn’t be out of place on CBeebies. They’re presenting it like it’s news for little kids.”

While another viewer fumed: “#bbcbreakfast this is news for 5 year olds. Silly Sally using that stupid voice again. This is more like Play School Breakfast TV.”

Meanwhile, a third chimed in: “I lasted 2 minutes on #bbcbreakfast before I had to turn it off. Sally, what’s her name?, with her sad, pitying voice and her nonsense about consciousness. Makes me want to vomit. It’s 8am on Monday. Cheer up and be more positive. God it’s depressing day after day. Sad story after sad story.”

During the episode, model Chloe Ayling, 27, told the BBC that people still call her a liar seven years after she was kidnapped.

Chloe’s ordeal began in July 2017, when Lukasz Herba lured her from London to Italy with the promise of a photo shoot, drugged her and drove her to a remote farm in a holdall.

Lukasz said she would be sold over the internet if he could not pay the $300,000 (about £230,000) ransom. He handed her over to the British consulate in Milan six days later.

However, Chloe faced years of doubts about her ordeal with people accusing her of faking her kidnapping, profiting from it and being involved in a publicity stunt.

She said: ‘I feel like my voice was never heard back then and I was really dominated by negativity, maybe because of how I dressed or presented myself or the fact that I wasn’t emotional.’

“I’m glad that it can be explained in a simple way and the facts can be shown visually so that people can understand such a complex story.”

Chloe’s story is told in a new six-part BBC series, Kidnapped: The Chloe Ayling Story.

The series, which follows Chloe’s experience of kidnapping and the media storm that followed, is based on police interviews, court transcripts and personal accounts, with some scenes created for dramatic purposes.

One angry viewer admitted the pair “present the news” as if it were for little kids, commenting: “#bbcbreakfast with Jon Kay and Sally Nugent wouldn’t be out of place on CBeebies.”

This comes after BBC Breakfast saw two presenters replaced in another hosting change, but it was the ‘stunning’ Carol Kirkwood who stole the show in a tight blue dress.

The Monday to Wednesday show’s presenters John Kay and Sally Nugent did not appear last week as the breakfast show continued to make changes for the Olympics.

Instead, Ben Thompson and Sarah Thompson took the helm on the red sofa to read the top stories.

But they were outdone by weatherwoman Carol, 62, who looked incredible in a fitted blue dress with half-length sleeves.

Viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to praise Carol’s look, saying: “Stunning in blue. Wow!”

They continued: ‘You look absolutely gorgeous’; ‘Bonnie, blue, beautiful Carol’; ‘Very pretty’.

And that wasn’t the only change: the BBC’s Olympics coverage began at 6:45am on BBC One, meaning BBC Breakfast was forced to switch to BBC Two mid-broadcast.

The breakfast show followed the same format last week and had been criticised for removing vital segments such as local news and weather reports.

Additionally, Ben’s replacement, John, is usually paired with Luxmy Gopal, rather than Sarah.

Sally, 52, was replaced at the end of July by Jon, 54, who appeared alongside Nina Warhurst (right).

This comes just a day after fans of the show were left furious when Ben Thompson replaced Jon on Tuesday.

BBC Breakfast did not mention why Sally was not on the show.

However, despite the change, some viewers felt Nina did a great job when she spoke about the tragic stabbings in Southport as part of the main news.

Just days earlier, the programme had been pulled from BBC One again mid-run and moved to BBC Two to make way for coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

But the fact that the show was cut and shrunk to a smaller channel wasn’t the only thing that had fans angry.

Fans called the interview segment “embarrassing and disappointing,” claiming Ben addressed the politician in an “aggressive tone.”

The Chancellor was on the current affairs programme to discuss her decision to end winter fuel payments for millions of pensioners who do not receive pension credit or other means-tested benefits, among other issues.
