FC Bayern fulfills Thomas Tuchel’s wish and brings Anthony Barry to Säbener Straße as assistant coach with immediate effect. The club officially announced this on Friday afternoon.
“I’m delighted that we’ve managed to sign Anthony Barry. Anthony completes our coaching team and is a perfect match for FC Bayern with his passion and quality,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Thomas Tuchel had already spoken about the 36-year-old at the press conference before the away game at Mainz 05 (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) and was pleased: “He just arrived. I’m very happy. We’ve had a long and hard time fought.”
Tuchel worked with Barry at Chelsea between January 2021 and September 2022. The Liverpool native stayed with the Blues under Graham Potter. Due to the takeover by Frank Lampard, FC Bayern now had a new opportunity.
According to the Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and “Times” journalist Jonathan Northcroft, the German industry leader is transferring around one million pounds (approx. 1.13 million euros) to Stamford Bridge.
“Bild” football boss Christian Falk spoke in the “Bayern Insider” podcast of a base amount of over half a million euros. The sum could increase with bonuses.
Tuchel is looking forward to working with FC Bayern
Tuchel is looking forward to seeing his companion at Bayern again. “Finally a good coach, finally quality in the coaching team,” joked the 49-year-old, before listing Barry’s strengths: “It’s the whole package: the personality, the love of the game, the quality – even in standard situations.”
Julian Nagelsmann’s successor is already supported by Arno Michels and Zsolt Löw at Bayern Munich.
There are only six competitive games left for the German record champions this season. On Saturday afternoon we continue in the Bundesliga against Mainz. In the DFB Cup and in the Champions League, Bayern failed prematurely in the quarter-finals, so the triple mission ended prematurely.
