Bayern Munich ‘discussed bringing back free agent Mario Gotze’ to boost their midfield with Thiago on his way to Liverpool … before deciding against it

  • Mario Gotze is a free agent after he left Borussia Dortmund this summer
  • Bayern Munich had considered bringing the midfielder back from the club
  • However, the Bundesliga champion decided against a move for the 28-year-old

Bayern Munich discussed the possibility of bringing Mario Gotze back from the club after being released by Borussia Dortmund, but decided against a move that was revealed.

Gotze is a free agent after he announced his decision to leave Signal Iduna Park late last season, but has not yet found a new club.

And according to Bild, that could have been the Bundesliga champions looking to add depth to their squad with Thiago Alcantara’s upcoming transfer to Liverpool.

However, despite having conversations within the club, the chiefs decided against any move – with the player unaware of those developments.

Despite no offer from Bayern, Gotze insists he does not have to leave the Bundesliga.

“The Bundesliga is also part of Europe and I never said I should leave the Bundesliga,” he told Bild.

“There are several ambitious clubs in Germany.”

Gotze originally left Borussia Dortmund in 2013 to join rival Bayern and stayed for three years

However, there is one wish that could be the World Cup winner’s next step, with the 28-year-old desperate to end the Champions League.

“I have ambitious goals and I really want to win the Champions League,” he added.

‘That drives me every day, in every way. I don’t want to end my career without having won this title once. ‘
