Bayer Leverkusen is still hoping for Exequiel Palacios to play before the quarter-final second leg of the Europa League on Thursday against Union Saint-Gilloise (9 p.m. / RTL).
“At Pala we have to wait until tomorrow, then we’ll decide if it’s possible,” said coach Xabi Alonso on the eve of the game in Belgium. Midfielder Palacios had recently complained about muscular problems in his thigh.
In the first leg, Bayer could not get past a 1-1 draw. “We need a complete performance. We need to take our chances, but we also need stable control. We now know how they play. We discussed what we need to do better and we want to implement that tomorrow,” said Alonso.
