Bayer Leverkusen have signed Brazilian top talent Arthur and given him a contract until June 2028.
The Werkself announced the transfer of the 20-year-old right-back from Brazilian club America FC on Monday, after the media had previously reported on the upcoming move.
Bayer’s sporting director Simon Rolfes spoke of a “transfer with foresight”.
“I’m very proud to be able to play for Bayer 04 soon. The club is known and loved in Brazil, and many of my compatriots have become outstanding footballers in Leverkusen,” the defender, who was involved in the 2-1 draw in Morocco, is quoted as saying Made his debut for the Brazilian national team at the end of March.
Arthur Augusto de Matos Soares, his full name, is a Bayer-style transfer with excellent connections in the South American market. The Werkself already have 23 Brazilians under contract.
In coach Xabi Alonso’s team, Jeremie Frimpong plays at right-back. It is not unlikely that Timothy Fosu-Mensah will leave the club at the end of the season.
Bayer had already announced the immediate farewell to Charles Aranguiz on Sunday. The Chilean international is moving to Brazilian giants Porto Alegre.
