A massive fire caused by a burst gas pipeline threatens to halt operations at several gas and coal plants.

Emergency services were first called to the leak in Bauhinia, central Queensland, about 8.30am on Tuesday.

Firefighters and paramedics remained on scene throughout the day as the fire continued to burn. Nobody was hurt.

Footage of the breakout shows a massive fire spreading about twice as high as nearby trees.

The 627 kilometer line transports up to 145 terajoules of gas from the Wallumbilla gas hub to large industrial users in Gladstone and Rockhampton.

Instead, the rupture has caused the line to be cut upstream to try to limit the fire and has completely cut off supply to Gladstone.

The closest plant to the break is a scraping station in neighboring Oombabeer, but it could also affect many others, such as Rollerstone.

Numerous industrial plants are also connected to the gas pipeline as it approaches Gladstone and Rockhampton.

Line outages could also affect a number of industrial plants including: Queensland Nitrates, Queensland Magnesia Facility, Queensland Alumina Limited Refinery, Boyne Smelters, Rio Tinto Yarwun Refinery and Orica Yarwun.

More to come.
