An ‘old’ sports announcer for a school district in Oklahoma has been removed from his post after he seemed to call the names of players in a girl’s basketball team during a district matchup on Friday “disgusting.”

The announcement was made after video went viral with girls and parents from the Crooked Oak basketball team in disbelief at the announcer’s shocking remarks during their Friday matchup against Newkirk High School.

“Now their names are pretty disgusting, but I’m going to try to exclaim them,” says the man in the short clip that has been viewed more than 37,000 times.

The identity of the man has not been released.

I swear this announcer just said all our girls’ names were disgusting, but he wanted to try to say … they tried to say the man was old and he didn’t mean it that way … but that’s exactly what he meant. .. there is no excuse for ignorance in 2020 #smmfh #letsgoco Jason Freeman https://youtu.be/VE9rw3KeSA0

Parents and spectators can be heard who shout with disgust at the announcements made by the announcers.

Many shared the video and called to fire the announcer, prompting a response from Brady Barnes, chief inspector of schools for Newkirk.

“While introducing players to the basketball game in high school on Friday night, the district’s old announcer made an unfortunate and inappropriate personal remark about the names of some of the Crooked Oak players,” Brady said in a statement.

“After about 20 years of announcing Newkirk games, this is the first time such a thing has happened. Although he did not make similar comments, I decided to replace him during the rest of the girl’s basketball game. “

Brady claimed that the incident did not represent “the Newkirk Public Schools,” and said he sincerely apologized for “all the pain or insults that our announcer caused.”
