New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe was ejected from Thursday’s win against the New Jersey Devils after a brutal hit left his opponent Nathan Bastian bleeding on the ice.

Rempe, 21, slammed Bastian into the wall on his first shift of the Rangers’ 5-1 win at the Prudential Center in Newark, launching the Devils forward and breaking his snaffle, all in one fell swoop.

Bastian suffered a head injury when blood was visible in his nose. His night ended after he walked toward the New Jersey locker room at the end of the first period.

Jonas Siegenthaler crouched before his teammate and immediately challenged Rempe to a fight. But Rempe threw two punches at the Devils defenseman to rule out the possibility of another fight.

He was later sent off with a match penalty after initially being penalized for roughness.

Earlier this week, Rempe brawled with Islanders winger Matt Martin in front of 80,000 fans at MetLife, just seconds after his NHL debut.

Rempe was already making league history as the first player to make his NHL debut in an outdoor game and likely set the record for the fastest fight in a career and therefore the fastest penalty.

Less than 90 seconds into the Empire State rivalry clash, in front of just under 80,000 fans in New Jersey, Martin and Rempe lined up facing each other at center ice for a showdown.

The fight lasted about 30 seconds as both players threw punches without wearing gloves.

Rempe was ejected for the second time in his career after making his NHL debut earlier this week.

Rempe built his reputation as an enforcer during his days in minor and minor league hockey. He resides on the third or fourth line and is not shy about using his physicality to his advantage.

Tying their longest winning streak (9) in eight seasons, the Rangers routed the rival Devils, 5-1, on Thursday. Alexis Lafreniere scored two goals. Vincent Trocheck, Chris Keider and Mike Zibanejad each added a goal for New York.

The last time the Rangers won 10 in a row was in 1972-73, and the other time in 1939-40, a year in which New York won the third of its four Stanley Cup titles.

New York (36-16-3) is in first place in the Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division.
