  • The Polish star was unhappy that Fati stood in the way of a cross for Lewandowski

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski was reportedly involved in a post-match spat with teammate Ansu Fati following the club’s exit from the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Spanish giants were dumped out of the competition following a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford as Xavi’s men went 4-3 on aggregate at the hands of the Red Devils.

Although Lewandowski entered the scoresheet from the penalty spot, he became visibly frustrated later in the match when Fati blocked a cross intended for Barcelona’s number nine.

Those frustrations didn’t stop when the team returned to the locker room, and according to IFconfronted 34-year-old Fati and expressed his grievances to his teammate.

The report states that the Polish attacker was “well-mannered” during his complaints, but pointed out to the young Spaniard that this was not the first time this had happened.

Fati – who did not start the game but came on in the last fifteen minutes – then defended himself by claiming that he had not seen Lewandowski during the move, prompting him to try and get to the end of the cross.

Lewandowski has been a huge success for the Catalans, scoring 25 goals in 30 games since his move from Bayern Munich in the summer.

His goals have contributed to Barcelona’s healthy lead at the top of LaLiga, where the eight-point lead rivals Real Madrid with 16 games left before the end of the season.

Xavi’s men are also still the Copa del Rey and will face Real Madrid in the first leg of the semi-final on Thursday. However, their European campaign has come to an end following United’s defeat.

There were no signs from the normally mild-mannered Lewandowski of his frustrations in a post-match post he posted on social media reflecting on the night’s events.

“We fought until the last minute, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough tonight.” Lewandowski said.

“We are disappointed, but we still have trophies to win this season. Thank you for your support.’
