Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu ADMITS signing of Martin Braithwaite is unfair on Leganes and calls for the LaLiga transfer loophole to close … but only after his party exploited it!
- Barcelona signed on Thursday Martin Braithwaite striker from Leganes
- They were allowed to sign a replacement for Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez
- LaLiga wrestlers Leganes cannot replace their former star attacker
Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu has openly admitted that his side should not have been able to sign Martin Braithwaite while the transfer window is closed.
The Spanish champions signed Braithwaite from Leganes on Thursday using a bizarre LaLiga transfer arrangement that clubs can use to replace a player if they have long-term injuries.
Barcelona was allowed to sign a substitute for the injured duo Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele from a colleague LaLiga side, but Leganes second from below cannot strengthen their strike options.

And Bartomeu said during the unveiling of Braithwaite that the ruling should not exist: “We have paid the clause in accordance with the regulations, although we think it should be revised because it is not fair that Leganes cannot sign anyone now.
“After analyzing different players, we chose Martin. We think it will help us win the two remaining titles, “he added.
‘I am very excited about the arrival of a new player and we hope that he will help us in a competition that we want to win and that is very open. He will give us strength.
“We had a long-term injured player like Dembele, alongside Luis Suarez. The technical team has studied players and we hope that Braithwaite can make a quick debut.
“He has signed for the next four and a half years and is coming to help now and for the future.”
Braithwaite can make his Barcelona debut against Eibar on Saturday, but he cannot play in the Champions League in Napoli on Tuesday.
