The move has been described as a power play from Barca in tense contract negotiations
Moriba made the move from Barca’s reserve team to the first team last January, impressing Ronald Koeman in the second half of the campaign, earning four league starts and scoring his first league goal in a 2-0 win over Osasuna.
But he has rejected Barca’s latest offer of a new contract, with his current deal running until 2022.
Barca president Joan Laporta said on Monday that Ilaix did not want to renew his contract, but that the club was unwilling to give in.
“We hope we don’t get a repeat of the Ilaix case, he is a player with a contract of another year and he does not want to renew,” Laporta told reporters at the presentation of the new signing Emerson Royal.
“It is a situation that we do not accept and we must act and send a message.
“He’s a great player, but if he doesn’t want to extend, there are other solutions.
President Joan Laporta said Barca should ‘send a message’ that they will not be tampered with
“We don’t want homegrown players who have only one year left and don’t want to renew.
“It leaves a bad taste for the quality of its player, but the club has to be above everything else and we can’t tug-of-war like this. I would like him and his representatives to reconsider.”
Barcelona-based newspaper Sports world Barca believe Moriba will give him time to extend his contract as he is on the cusp of signing a deal with another club.
But Barca are adamant that they will only let him go to another team for the right price and they will not be cornered because he doesn’t have a concrete offer yet.
The report added that Barca believe Moriba and his agent are in negotiations with Chelsea about a transfer to the Premier League side for a free transfer in 2022, with a higher salary and a sign-up bonus as a result, in addition to a “succulent Commission’. for his agents and the player’s father.
Moriba revealed last week that he had received racist messages on social media following reports of the breach of contract.
