Barcelona president Joan Laporta has teased the arrival of even more players after the club landed two signings in two days with Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.
The LaLiga outfit has been short of money this summer after their finances took a hit during the Covid pandemic, and the club are looking for some great value deals, with Aguero and Garcia both arriving with free transfers.
But despite their vulnerable position, Barca still have plans to bolster the squad, according to Laporta – who admits it requires ‘balance’ after they dropped out of the LaLiga title race after a disappointing season.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists more players can arrive at the club next week
The club made two signings in two days, including centre-back Eric Garcia on a free transfer
Sergio Aguero also came over for free after ending his stay at Manchester City
The newly installed club chief promised he was working on new deals for fresh faces and said there could be news next week.
“There will be more player presentations, we are working on it,” he said at the press conference ahead of Garcia’s unveiling.
“We are in the process of recruiting players to improve the first team. We have to balance the squad, you will see what we are working on. There will be more news next week.’
Last month, Laporta spoke about how “a cycle has come to an end” and promised big changes this summer after expressing displeasure with the team’s performance.
Memphis Depay leaves Lyon after his contract expires in June and is a target for Barcelona
And after two strong signings at Garcia and Aguero, he is now looking at a few more freebies – with Lyon forward Memphis Depay – whose contract expires this month – a long-term goal.
Barca failed to sign in October after refusing to pay Lyon’s £23million asking price and refusing to pick him up in January – with the club opting to take their lead when he became a free agent.
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum – whose contract also expires at the end of June – has been linked with a move to Nou Camp after building a good relationship with Koeman during their time together in the Dutch national team.
The LaLiga giants are also excited about a free transfer for Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum
Marca quoted him as saying that there had indeed been contact with the Spanish giants as he prepares for Euro 2020 with the Dutch squad.
‘I can’t deny the contacts. I just signed with Liverpool and it’s an interesting situation for a lot of clubs.”
According to reports, the 30-year-old is set to commit to a three-year deal ending in 2034, which could be announced before the European Championship kicks off on June 11.
