Sergio Aguero praised the manager of one of former club Manchester City’s biggest rivals when he shared that he would have loved to have played under Jurgen Klopp.

The former Cityzen broke Merseyside hearts on more than one occasion during his ruthless and in-form tenure in the Premier League between 2011 and 2021.

The 35-year-old, who was forced to retire prematurely after being diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia shortly after his move to Barcelona three years ago, helped his former team to their first Premier League title in memorable style in his first season, and went on to win four more titles, three of them during Klopp’s reign at Anfield.

But despite spending most of his time in Manchester working under messianic manager Pep Guardiola, Aguero admitted it would have been a “great experience” to play under the German manager at some point in his career due to his particular style of play.

“Excellent coach,” Agüero said of Klopp. Bet“Klopp has certainly elevated Liverpool, allowing them to become protagonists in the Premier League in recent years.

“It has made them more aggressive, more intense in their style of play. New players have arrived and Jurgen has known how to adapt them to this offensive mentality.

“We will miss him dearly in the Premier League… but he has made his decision and it is up to us to respect it.

‘Any great manager will teach you many valuable things. “It surely would have been a great experience playing with Klopp.”

The Reds coach announced in January his departure from the club after nine years full of trophies, with a view to facing the remainder of the season, after stating that he had “run out of energy” in the position.

Liverpool are keen to ensure the manager who won the club their first Premier League title is ousted in spectacular fashion, with the team enjoying a spectacular season after a more mediocre 2022-23 campaign.

Liverpool currently sit second behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference alone, but ahead of the end of the season the race for top spot remains incredibly close, with Aguero’s former team trailing in third by a single point. .

When Premier League action resumes over the weekend, Liverpool will be watching to see if Man City and Arsenal drop crucial points when the two sides meet in a crunch clash at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon.

The Merseyside club have a comparatively easier clash early in the day when they host Brighton at Anfield, the eighth-placed Seagulls having won just twice in their last five league games.
