Barcelona set an unwelcome first in their Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last night after failing to score a single goal.

Because of this, they struggled to capitalize on opportunities and as a result were unable to test or score goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the entire match.

Ronald Koeman lamented his lack of options after his team’s group stage nightmare
Manager Ronald Koeman chided his worn-out squad at full-time, insisting he had only three forwards to choose from.
Luuk de Jong teamed up with Memphis Depay, who has proved a small glimmer of hope for the team in their post-Lionel Messi era.
But both strikers found themselves eating leftovers and Bayern dropped to all three points after Thomas Müller’s opener and Robert Lewandowski’s double.
The hosts were well beaten overnight, having let in three and barely being threatened in the attack
Due to the result, Barcelona is at the bottom of the group after the first round of play and the pressure on Koeman continues to increase.
“Of course we would have liked to compete better, but there is a difference in their quality as a team” [and ours]said Koeman.
‘There was also a big difference between the banks. We have a lot of players with a great future, but right now we need players back from injuries.”
He continued: ‘We started well, but we had problems moving forward. We were unlucky with the first goal and from their second goal it was very difficult.
Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the game to put even more pressure on manager Koeman
“At the moment they are a better team than us.
‘Here we are now. Jordi Alba was sick last night and still playing. This was Luuk De Jong’s first game.
“Alba was very tired and we didn’t want to risk him playing the whole game.”
A banner reading ‘Koeman Out’ was displayed before kick-off as a clear indication of mounting tensions, but it was removed by club staff.
Luuk de Jong had Memphis Depay in front together with Barcelona in their weak performance
Meanwhile Gerard Pique appeared to be focusing on the few positives of the loss, with four teenagers on the pitch full-time for Barcelona.
“We competed in the first half and their goal came from a deflection,” said Pique.
“The team didn’t hide and we had young players making their debut in the Champions League. I am sure we will eventually compete.
“We have Ansu (Fati), Ousmane (Dembele) and Kun (Aguero) who have yet to come back from injury. We are clearly not among the favorites for the Champions League now.”
